During September this year I had the joy of building a winter fairy set for a very special little girl. Her grandmother, my midwife from when I was pregnant with my daughter a couple years back, contacted me in the summer to discuss a fairy session for her granddaughter. She wanted it to be a surprise for her daughter for Christmas. I was over the moon to create this session for her and to give her granddaughter a magical experience. When they arrived, we talked about fairies, and her favorite movie, Frozen. We listened to Disney songs, and read a special poem that a fairy had left for her. At the end of the session we ate cupcakes, and she got to go home with her fairy wings, fairy crown, and fairy wand. It's always such a challenge for me to hold back from sharing images. I love what I do, but sometimes sessions are all about special surprises. That's always so much fun, and I love the anticipation that comes for the gift giver too, waiting to share the images with whomever they're gifting to, in this case a special gift for her daughter. Fairy sessions are always so magical and joyful to create. Little girls adore dressing up and using their imagination, and it's such a special, endearing time in childhood. So without further ado, here are the images from this very magical winter fairy session. I hope these images bring so much joy for this little girl and her mother, and grandmother for many, many years to come. If you have a special little girl in your life that you'd love to create a fairy session for, please feel free to contact me at jessicaallisonportrait@gmail.com or 208-794-3293. I would be honored to be a part of creating some magic and sparkle in your life and hers.

Has Christmas touched your heart, yet? It's only a few more days away. The magic of Christmas is a wonderful experience, if you let it be. It can be joyful, despite the crowds. It can be inspiring, when you give with love. It can elevate your soul when you take time for reflection and also focus on peace. I love Christmas. Childhood is a magical time, and Christmas allows all of us a chance to feel like a kid again, no matter how old we get. From traditions, food, smells, the chill in the air, the bright light of decorations on houses, snuggling up to the same old Christmas movies and cartoons each year, connecting with family and friends, perhaps you serve others, and rejoice in celebrating Jesus' birth. Most of us have at least one thing we can find to love about this time of year. What Christmas songs, art, and traditions do you cherish? What songs do your children cherish? I hope you and your children are creating beautiful experiences and memories together this year, and that the love between you lasts a lifetime. This session was something I dreamed of doing when I found out I was pregnant with my little girl in November 2015. I knew I wanted to do a Christmas angel series. This year I went for it, and I'm so glad I did. I'm in love with these images and my little daughter. It'll be a tradition to do a new Christmas series each year with her. I'm wanting to do more angle photos too in the future. I believe in angels, and I feel like their presence is always stronger during Christmastime. I love reading about angels and people's experiences with them. I love angel artwork, and songs about angels. This made me very happy to create this series. Angels we have heard on high Sweetly singing o’er the plains, And the mountains in reply Echoing their joyous strains. Gloria, in excelsis Deo! I'd love to share my most favorite Christmas song with you. It has been my favorite Christmas song since I was a child. There are many covers of this song by talented musicians, and I cannot choose a favorite, because I pretty much love this song whenever I hear by whomever is singing it. ;) One thing for sure is, can't go wrong with listening to Bocelli, and it's pretty awesome to hear him paired with Mary J. Blige. May there always be an angel by your side. May you have a meaningful and merry Christmas! xo, Jessica Thanks for checking out the blog. If you like what you see, feel free to share! Just a lot of cold, overcast skies, and inversion. That doesn't mean we couldn't make the best of what we have, which is a lot of sagebrush and open desert. I'm in love with her little knit suit and boots, but the pop of red from her Santa hat just brings a lot of Christmas feel to the images. When we left for the session it was near dusk, the sun was going down fast. I attempted to take most shots with only available natural light, but towards the end I pulled out my flash to give a boost to the last set of images. I really should've left the house sooner, but when this baby girl finally settles for nap, not even a mouse will stir, because no one dares to wake her. We don't call her Clairebear just because it's cute, although that's one reason. ;) Now, for a little more imagination... it's the Wild West, so why not? Now, don't go gettin' upset. These aren't real. I've taken heat for using these prop reptiles before. No snakes, tortoise, or children were in any danger. It isn't real. It's called creativity and playfulness. She had fun feeding the tortoise and telling the snake what to do with her stick. Have a rootin' tootin' Christmas, y'all! Are you looking for photos of your kiddos? Often he is dressed for knight's battle, typically made of some strip of fabric, rope, and duct tape, sometimes in costume, sometimes he will just pull stuff from my closet and his to come up with something all his own. He is crazy, silly, and he is a moody 13 year old. I am crazy about him, and he is my biggest boy crush. I am sooooo happy you let me take some photos of you today. I have missed this! On a hot summer night Don't be no fun, don't forget you're young On a hot summer night - Billy Idol I am so glad I got to experience the joy of photographing this baby girl's first birthday cake smash! It was so fun! I have had the joy of getting to know her and her mom over the last month, and it has just been a blessing. I am glad our little girls are becoming friends too! A birthday wish. Your mommy and daddy love you not just because you are turning one, but because you are truly one in a million. They fuss over you not just because you are sweet, but because holding you is a precious treat. In life, they know that whatever you do, you will not just go very far, you’ll be a rock star. Happy 1st birthday, sweet girl. Mommy and MeThanks for checking out the blog! If you like what you see, feel free to share! Word of mouth is always greatly appreciated! All images © Idaho Children’s Photography by Jessica Allison Maternity and Babies through Tweens I saw this cute Coca-Cola pail in an antique store in Boise. I knew as soon as I saw it that I wanted to get photographs of my daughter in it. She was only about 3 month sold at the time, and I wanted to wait it out a bit before doing the shoot. I looked around for a bit wondering what I would have her wear, and finally came across a cute red bonnet and bloomer set. It is great quality and looks perfect. All I had to do was wait for her to grow a bit bigger. ;) The fourth picture in this set really shows her sweetness. She is very giving, always willing to share, naturally. It makes me smile every time I look at it. She was looking at her brother and uncle as if to say, "you want one too?" Thanks for checking out the blog. If you like what you see, feel free to share! These are some very talented kids! If you ever get a chance to see them in a show, you really must. I have shot many performances and portraits with Meridian Cue, and each time is always exciting. Great costumes, great directors, talented kids, and I feel blessed to be a part of it, and get to enjoy seeing my own son perform too! This girl played a town maiden.
